Requirements for Admission
To apply to the South Dakota School of Massage Therapy, Inc., an applicant must have a high school diploma or legal equivalent. Also, he/she must be physically capable of performing all massage techniques taught at the school.

Application Procedure

  1. Request application materials by writing or calling the school.
  2. If desired, you may contact the school to arrange for a visit.
  3. Deadline for appliction is 2 weeks prior to the first scheduled day of class unless other arrangements have been made with the director.
  4. Each application must include the following:
    • Completed application form (click here for printable application form)
    • Three letters of reference
    • Autobiography/letter of intent
    • Non-refundable application fee ($100.00)
    • Recent photo
    • Official transcripts from high school, colleges or technical training programs attended (if applicable)
During the admissions process, you will be contacted to schedule a personal interview. For those living outside of Sioux Falls, a telephone interview can replace a face-to-face personal interview. You will receive notice of acceptance/denial following the interview and review of your application.

If you are accepted into the school but the class you applied for becomes full or is cancelled, the application fee may be applied to the next available class for up to one year.

A Note About Licensure
Course instruction at the South Dakota School of Massage Therapy Inc.Currently, more than half of the states in the US have requirements for licensure. As of July 1, 2005, South Dakota law requires state licensing. Local laws will have varying requirements for the practice of massage therapy and the regulation of massage therapy establishments (business sites). In some cases, you may be starting from scratch in your community, Our curriculum has been satisfactory for those graduates wishing to practice in states requiring 500 hours of training. We strongly encourage you to become informed regarding the regulation of massage therapy and massage therapy establishments in the city or state where you intend to practice after graduation. We are happy to help in this regard and you may call the school for more information.

Students are eligible to sit for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
